I'd be careful with vitamin A because it can be toxic or cause birth defects in large doses, and 8,000 IU is twice the RDA for an adolescent or adult female. (It's safe to eat higher does of beta carotene because it behaves differently in the body than preformed vitamin A). I know they're vitamin A derivativesm but eating vitamin A is totally different from using Retin-A or Differnin. If you're afraid of not getting enough vitamin A, I'd just take a multivitamin because they have enough to ensure adequate intake, but most don't include megadoses.

Yeah, I was going to comment on that. Are your supplements vitamin A or carotenes. I recently read that you can't over dose on the carotenes as the body converts what it neeRAB to vitamin A and the rest is used as anti-oxidents.

Also, yes I've read posts by people who take large doses of vitamin A. Do a search.

:)
well I just went to Duane Reade and bought a bottle of Vitamin A 8,000 IU and it says take one a day. And I just started breaking out and I want it to go away. The Dermatologist gave me differen but it doesn't seem to work.:jester:

I'd be careful with the Vitamin A route. Thinking it would work like Accutane, I tried large doses of regular old Vitamin A and ended up getting REALLY sick!:dizzy:

It should tell you on the bottle in the supplement facts or in the ingredients list. I don't think 8,000 is that high, my multi has 15,000 IU but 70% from carotenes. And I'm not an expert on Vitamin A, which is why you should do a search for prior discussions. I know there have been some, but I never tried it or participate

The upper tolerable limit for the animal form of vitamin A is 10,000IU. I've been taking 5000IU myself along with other supplements like zinc and omega-3. I also eat about 3 carrots a day which is supposed to be about 25,000 IU of beta carotene. So far I haven't noticed a huge difference but from what I've heard the supplement route doens't work that well unless you were already deficient in certain vitamins.
