Visiting a friend with cockroaches but don't want to bring them home.?

I am flying to California to visit a long time good friend of mine. We are lucky if we get to see each other once a year. I am excited to see her, but because she has developed a cockroach problem since the last time I've been there... I'm kinda uncomfortable. I don't want to bring them home as I cannot afford the money it takes to get rid of them. She assures me they are under control, but I am highly allergic to them (I have asthma) and I guess you could say I have a phobia. Any ideas on how to protect my luggage? I just can't bring them home!
 
Well, a cheap way is to spray your bag with bugspray. my mom uses that for mosquitoes! Get one that protects against cockroaches.
