This is supposedly the most expensive Japanese movie ever made, although anyone watching the horrible recut 4:3 version shown on the Unexplained channel would be hard put to believe it.
There is however a full, widescreen, subtitled version available legally and free from archive.org.
This sf epic is a apocalyptic tale of the world devastated by an accidental virus release, filmed all over the place with an international cast including Robert Vaughan, Glenn Ford, Henry Silva and Chuck Connors (as a British submarine commander no less!). A few hundred survivors, mostly Japanese (it's their movie after all), are trying to ensure humanity's survival in the Antarctic.
Unjustly neglected and apparently in the public domain. Maybe Unexplained should've looked a bit harder for a decent copy.

It seemed to vanish without a trace soon after release. No idea why. The dvd/dual layer download is very good quality although you may get a few false starts at peak times; in the morning it goes like a train.

This is a classic film, I was lucky to stumble upon it a few years ago, i'm glad it's easily available for people to watch online. Definitly worth viewing for those who haven't seen.
