I've noticed the current unbalance in the acceptability of violence, sexuality and profanity.
Violence incredibly tolerated by the US as seen my movies and TV compared to profanity/nudity. I personally feel that violence is more damaging than profanity/nudity. This makes me wonder why it is not the opposite. For example, the only words you can say during prime time are ass and bitch, but you cannot say asshole or other swear words. Doesn't government regulation on such a thing only increase its power as a symbol? It also makes me wonder why it is not protected by the first amendment, especially since its in the private sector. Regarding nudity, I feel that American attitudes are reverting back to a more conservative approach. In the 80s, there were plenty of PG movies with nudity. Guess why they its called parental guidance (not that anyone knows what that means anymore). Now its rare to see nudity in a R movie. But don't worry there is plenty of violence.
So I would really like to know why this social mos the way it is?
