Hello everyone! This question is directed at anyone who has had experience with learning the violin or viola, since I assume progress is about the same for both....
So I just want a realistic check up on how I'm doing. My instructor doesn't really tell me how I'm doing much and I'd like to know.
I started playing the viola last November because the strings director at my school only had one violist, and he was mainly a saxophone/violin player =/. I wasn't in the strings orchestra with them at all for that school year, but by the end of the year I was able to play all the music that they were and played in their last concert. (IT was SO much fun!!!
)
Now, after a summer of lessons and practice, I've gotten pretty good at third position, and my vibrato is a little less wobbly and more vibrato-ish. But I'm still not good at it.
So, in summary, I'm a 16 year old who's been playing the viola for maybe nine months that can play in third position and working on vibrato for about a month (not as hard as it looks, I think.). When my instructor gets back from summer vacation, we're going to start working on a concerto, but I don't remember by whom. Sorry.
SO, is that average for the length of time I've been playing? Below average? Above average?
I'm sorry I can't give you more information, but I'm not really that musically inclined =/. I don't really know much musical terminology and stuff. This is probably a bad question. Sorry again. 0_o
