i have a 1976 dodge truck. i was looking at the charging system and it doesnt make much sense to me.....
the alternator has 2 connections that goes to the regulator <female/male plug in>. the third wire is the biggest one and is bolted on to the alternator. that wire seems to be the main one and goes directly to the amp meter and back to the battery. when i measure the voltage at idle on only the alternator wire, it puts out 20volts. when i connect it onto the battery its putting out 12.3 volts. Is this setup normal for old dodges?
