Ok, Im going to convert some videos for my F480 Tocco.

Whats the best tool/app to use? and what settings? ie format, bitrate, fps, resolution etc .
Ive messed a bit with it and it seems to be 320X240 res, 400 video bitrate, 24fps. But love to hear what others are doing please and with what app. I use DVD Catalyst.

cheers

Use Super, it's free and works great.
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

First time use:
Right click anywhere in the window
Select: Output file saving management
Check the box: save each file its respective source directory

Convert:
Drag&drop your movie to anywhere in Super window.
Select:
mp4
H 264/AVC
320x240
4:3
15 fps
288 bitrate
Leave all audio setting as they are (all blue text)
Press "Encode (active files)" button

REMARK:
if a file is not 4:3 aspect ratio and you do not want to get deformated ratio, the do as follow:

At Video Scale size the box "More"
Enter width: 320
Enter Height: you must calculate proportional height
Leave Aspect unchecked

How to calculate Height:
Open you video with your Windows Media Player.
At Archive - Properties you can read the video widthxheight
Lets say it is 720x400
Then the HEIGHT proprtional to width=320 is:
400*320/720 = 178

Cheers for that!!

The frame rate seems low though, I thought the F480 can play higher frame rate though?

Also AVC (h264) is a lot more CPU intensive, I thought MP4 would be better?

cheers

It is a documented spec that F480 only plays back at 15fps, it can deal with higher fps videos, but they are reduced to 15fps. It souds too bad but it plays back really smooth.

I am not expert about that, I just post what worked for me at first try.
Please post if you find any better combination of output format, bitrate, etc.

Im not an expert either defo not I knew it recorded off the camera at 15fps but didnt realise it was restricted to playing at 15fps? where is this documented?

I converted some clips and at higher than about 24 they got choppy and stuttering, presumed it was the max fps that it could handle

Yeh the H264 AVC is a better quality codec (apple use it a lot) but its more CPU intenesive, doesnt matter suppose if it plays smooth, I know Tocco supports h264 it says, and MP4 so suppose whatever is best.

have you done DVD conversins with Super? and they play really well?

What firmware have you got (press *#1234#), as mine still plays thevideo wit the title left on the screen, absolutely daft!!

very good, since samsung dedicated app to convert any movie is in Samsung PC Studio, download it and you have a nice converter there with lot's of options

You are right, the spec I am referring to is
"Video Recording & Editor (MPEG4, QVGA@15fps)"
I confused "editor" with playback.

I am very suprised and happy with video playback of F480, it plays very smooth and sharp also with my 15fps generated videos
I am also surprised with LCD quality, I have never seen a handheld screen with so sharp image and so big angle of view.

I flashed mi F480 with F7 ROM, title does not appears.

Hi guys,

I've had my Tocco for about a week now and have been fiddling with it pretty much non-stop.

I've put video onto mine using Pocket DVD Wizard and have been very impressed by the quality. I've put on both live action and cartoon type movies and playback is very watchable,no stuttering or the like, even subtitles are perfectly legible.

Give it a try, you wont be disappointed!
