Vicodin Vs. Ultraset?

I HAVE SCAR TISSUE REPLACING A HERNIATION AT L5/S1 AND WAS SENT TO WORK HARDENING THE OTHER DAY AND LEFT IN SEVERE PAIN. WENT TO SEE MY DR. TODAY AND HE ORDERED ESI AND SWITCHED ME FROM VICODIN TO ULTRASET. I ALSO TAKE NEUROTIN AND CELEBREX. HERES MY QUESTION :confused: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VICODIN AND ULTRASET? WILL I GO THROUGH WITHDRAWLS FROM THE VICODIN ( I'VE BEEN TAKING THEM FOR APPROX. 5 MONTHS)? WHICH ONE DO YOU FOLKS FEEL IS BETTER? ANY AND ALL HELP WILL AS ALWAYS BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! :) :)

I have been on both Vicodin and Ultracet, so I feel confident in giving you some advice. Vicodin (the controlled substance version) is VERY addictive--DO NOT STOP TAKING THIS COLD TURKEY!!!!! Ultracet is a "synthetic" version of Vicodin and is not nearly as addictive. Naturally, if you take anything long enough you will become addicted to it. It is also easier on your system than the Vicodin--it does not upset your stomach as easily. Ask your doc how to mix the two meRAB while you are getting off the Vicodin. Mine had me take 3/4 Vicodin and 1/4 Ultracet for 2 weeks and step it down by 1/4 dose every 2 weeks. Hope this helps! :)
 
Yes in all practical means. Ultram (Tramadol) contains just that. Ultracet is Tramadol with Tylenol in it. It common for opiate meRAB or opiate like meRAB to mix either tylenol or asprin to give you more of an analgesic effect (Pain Relief). All in all, the main drug you are taking is Tramadol.
 
Thanks Again For The Replies!!! I Am Trying To Quit The Vicodin Cold Turkey, It's Only Been About 15 Hrs. Since Taking My Last Vicodin. All I Am Really Feeling Right Now Is Tiredness And I Am Having Weird Dreams (that's Why I Am Up Now). Looking At The Description For Ultracet, It Says Not To Mix With Vicodin So I Hope I Can Get Through With Minimal Withdrawls. I Have Noticed Though That The Ultracet Doesn't Seem To Work As Well With The Pain, It's Taking Away Muscle Pain, But Leaving Some Stabbing Nerve Pain. I Wonder Which One Is Stronger?
 
Ultracet (tramadol) first came out and Doctors were told that it would be a great alternative to Opiate medication like Vicodin with the same analgesic effect (Pain relief) without the addiction properties. Well many studies and now indicate that it is as addictive as many other opiate drugs. Alot of doctors feel better prescribing Ultracet over vicodin because it keeps them off the radar from the controlled drugs. I have read that many people have had withdrawls from Ultracet and recently read an article that suggesting it become a controlled substance like vicodin. As far as the Vicodin goes, I would not just stop cold turkey. You should work with your doctor to taper the vicodin so you can reduce any withdrawls. You may find that Ultracet works fine, however, remeraber that it can have addictive effects like vicodin. So when you come off Ultracet, you will want to taper that also.

I would not quit the Vicodin cold turkey. You should taper if you have been on it that long. Also, Ultracet (Tramadol and Tylenol) is addicting. Read the prescribing info. Also, Ultracet is not the synthetic version of Vicodin. Vicodin (Hydrocodone) is a semi-synthetic narcotic analgesic. I would recommend reading the prescribing info for Ultracet from the manufacturer. It is actually only marketed for short term pain relief, however I have heard of people on it longer. If you take it on a regular basis, you should taper this medication as you can go through WD's. Again, it is all explained in the prescribing info for this drug.

I hope the ESI's work for you. I didnt have any luck myself. I have scar tissue wrapped around and "tethered" to my S-1 nerve. Alot of inflammation too. I take vicodin 750's 2 to 3x a day along w/ 2 ultrams a day. I have probs. with both legs now and it really sucks. I was starting to take celebrex which seemed to help alot, but dr. pulled me off them. :wave:
 
Sorry, to be more precise; Ultracet contains 37.5mg of Tramadol and 325mg of Tylenol. Ultram, last I checked only comes in 50mg tablets of Tramadol. They may have a different dose size now, but it was 50mg.

Just to answer one more thing. If you look at an equianalgesic chart, Vicodin (Hydrocodone) is about a 1:1 Ratio with Morphine, meaning that Mg to Mg they are about the same strength. Most people think that Morphine is the top dog, however, Morphine is just what other drugs are compared to. Again, you can find this information by looking it up on the charts. However by adding Tylenol to Hydrocodone, it makes it a schedule 3 vs 2 like Morphine. Hope I'm not confusing you.

As far as Tramadol, A dose of 100 mg ULTRAM (Tramadol, no Tylenol) tended to provide analgesia superior to codeine sulfate 60 mg, but it was not as effective as the corabination of aspirin 650 mg with codeine phosphate 60 mg.

see i read some where that 15mg of hydro is the same as 10mg morphine oral but not sure let me tell you my story bout hydro i took norco just another brand of hydro for about 4 mo i was taking 10mg about 8 to 10 aday as perscribed hydro you build tolerance fast i dont know how may or what mg you were taking but,my dr put me on oxycontin i being durab to this type of medication i thought going from one narcotic to another to another there would be no withdraw symtons boy was i wrong!!!!there was including leg cramps calmy skin and just an overall bad feeling and it lasted for about 5 days and i went to another narcotic so i really do not recomend just stoping cold turkey if you stoped taking them 15hr ago you will start feeling the withdraw about 24hr after taking your last dose of the the hydro and your ultracet will not help any of these side affects let me repeat myself it WILL NOT HELP WIT THE SIDE AFFECTS if you call your dr and talk to him about a taper of the hydro he may help maybe not but he might give some librium or some other benzo to help with the anxiety i hope he puts you on a taper though its alot better on you and good luck.about the ultracet well its not going to work as well as the hydrocodone why did your dr decide to change your medication was your pain not as bad as it has been?i hope everything works out for you and i will pray for you keep everyone on here posted these people know what they are talking about and alot of them have been there did that so if you have any questions please ask and im sure these guys and girls will answer :angel:
 
my dr told me that ultracet is about the same as taking a 800mg of motrin he said it works well with headachs but not any real pain it works like a narcotic by binding to the opoid recepters but isnt a narcotic
 
The Vicodin Gave Me Headaches And Stomach Aches Along With That "high Feeling" For Four Months. I Asked For That Long To Be Switched. I Have To Take Two Ultracet Every Four Hours, But The Other Side Effects Are Gone. He Also Has Me Set Up For Esi And I Guess He Thinks This Is Going To Help Also. I Would Rather Take More Ultracet And Deal With A Little More Pain Than Go Through Those Side Effects Any Longer!!!
 
Hi. I've been on xanax for about 6 years. I have also been on ultracet, switched to vicodin, and post surgery went to Norco. All in all that was probably less than a year. I took alot of those pills for pain, but had no problems. I reduced them as time went by and sometimes switched them around since I had so many left overs. I don't remeraber any side effects from coming off them. I may have felt some flu symptoms, but not bothersome enough to care. However, I truly needed them for pain. I'm more afraid of taking Advil/tylenol daily.
These posts are old so hope everybody had a positive outcome.
