My husband had back surgery in Feb and was taking vicodin. he then had knee surgery in aug and continued the vicodin. So its been 10 months and he was taking more then i knew of. He came to me and told me he was addicted. we are seeing a docotr who gave him clonondine to help w/ the withdrawls. he is down to 1/2 a vicodin a day and on mon goes to quarters. he is doing good i think , but he is depressed. I am just looking for someone with this experience, because i am worried sick we have 2 small children. I never thought this would happen. i am so lost.......any help would be appreciated. we have been married 14 years.

Thank you

I started taking clonidine in '02 for blood pressure. I started Vicadin Sept. '03. I had left hip replacement in Dec. '03 and right hip in March '04. I continued to take the Vicadin for spinal stenosis until April '08. I stopped the Vicadin and started Ultram. It hasn't worked for the back pain yet! The Vicadin had stopped working well. I never felt addicted, and have not experienced any withdrawls since stopping Vicadin. Perhaps this is because of the clonidine. I never took the max dose, though I came close after each surgery. The clonidine has one side effect I don't like. If I am sitting, I will fall asleep for about 10-30 minutes. My doctor told me to think of it as a power nap. It also lowers my heart rate.
