Short history:

At a funeral last April, I had a MAJOR attack of acid reflux & subsequnt Gerd. Had trouble breathing straight away during attack including unrelenting yawning trying to catch breath. The worse my Gerd... the worse the breathing. I definately saw a link.

I now have uncontrolled Gerd. I have been on Nexium 40 for about 1 1/2 months straight, but have been taking it since last April really (missing a few days here and there) as I would run out. If I missed a day or 2, I was in deep trouble again.

My question- I know Gerd is linked to asthma & breathlessness. But I have not been able to breath proper since last April. I almost never have any respite from this SOB.

Can uncontrolled GERD really cause chronic unrelenting SOB, or is it off/on sort of thing. At times I thought I would suffocate from not breathing. MY GP says there is nothing wrong with my lungs (no tests conducted), and it's definately the GERD.

All I can say is it's become debilitating and the SOB makes me feel I am going to smother.

Any thought guys?

Thank you

Is it possible that the feeling of being SOB is causing panic or anxiety attacks making you feel like you are going to smother? I know when I get SOB it senRAB me into panic, which only makes things worse. I'm going to try the breathing exercises as posted. I know it's a scary feeling.

Besides the breathing exercises I posted, my sister told me about yoga exercises that I do before I go to bed to keep my nose clear.
They go like this:
Breathe through one nostril, breathe out through the other. Do this a few times, Also alternate.

Breathe in deeply. Hold. Breathe out deeply. Do this a few times. . I also clear my nose before I go to bed, to make sure I have the least amount of stuffiness. Nasal rinses help too.
