Very odd electrical issues with 2005 Ford Focus?

Driving down the road, the car radio will cut out, then the dash will start clicking loudly, and the car will try and die the surge in RPM's. It will do this a few times, then go back to running normally. However, when this happens, if you turn the car off, it will not restart. You can unlock the car with keyless entry, but you cannot lock it. Could this simply only be a faulty battery? Or it is something more? Possibly in the ignition switch or even the car's computer? The dealership I bought the car from simply replaced the radio and called it fixed... that lasted one day. The car is going back, but I wanted possible answers because the service department has a reputation for being incompetent and fixing everything but the issue to rack up huge repair bills.
