Very happy with Bell TV

I had starchoice for 7 years or so. We were looking for more Greek channels, as star choice only has 1. Bell has 3. So i ordered a dish and 2 standard receivers ("2 tv solution") from their website. (dont call bell, their operators will try to con you, just go online only).

Installation came 4 days later, the guy was supposed to come between 8am-12pm but came at 7:30am... this was a great surprise as I have often wasted many hours waiting for service men to show up, and sometimes they never do (cough...rogers - long story :)).

I am very happy with the user interface of their receivers, which is way better than the old starchoice ones i had. The channels are nicely organized in the guide as well. I locked out all the channels i dont catch or will never watch so as to further unclutter my guide. The picture is great, and the installation man from Vu Point (ontario) was very nice as well.

My current programming:
Digital standard (minus $1.00 optional US timeshifting):$32.00
Greek Combo (2 greek channels): 20.00
Mega TV (3rd greek channel): 10.00
digital service fee: 3.00
total: $65.00 + tax

I bought the system (1 dish and 2 standard recievers) for 149.00
installation (on a 2yr contract) for 50.00
BUT i get 50% off of the purchase price in programming credits, $10.00 free of pay-per-view and 2 months free of the movie network.

So overall, I am very happy with Bell TV. Ordering online was easy, installation was prompt and professional, and activating the programming i mentioned above was easily done over the phone. And the channels are great.

Good work Bell, you have my loyalty (for TV at least), although i still think you are a bit of a bloated company overall :)

I'm glad you are happy. But..... I don't know if the sale is still on, but just before Christmas, I was in a BellWorld in Brampton, and they had the 9242 HDPVR on sale to new customers for only $199!
Even if you don't have HD, you can use it for both standard def tv's, and the PVR is awesome! This really is nice for the few times every year you lose signal due to bad weather.
I believe you have 7-10 days to cancel, and try and get the 9242, but if you are happy, I guess you can just keep your current setup
P.S I really feel for you guys that want to catch some "back home" programming, and have to pay $20 for a few channels.... But I guess its better to have the option (Bell) than not to have it at all (Starchoice)
 
I was impressed that the Tech was there at 7:30am, just hope you do not tell Bell about this, he will get in trouble as that is outside the "interval". Honestly.
 
well, he was sitting in his car drinking coffee with the light on, and didnt get out until he saw that i was up, as i waved to him from the front door. I guess he was gonna wait until 8 am to knock. he was good.

As far as him being early and waiting to knock, that's very considerate of him.
 
Living in Rogers county aka Toronto, it's so hard to find people with Bell TV (that isn't stolen), and I've had it for 2 years now, and absolutely love the service.

I recommend the 9242 PVR to everyone because it is light years ahead of the current rogers HD PVR (I've owned both).

The only downside is the lack of "passthrough" mode on the scaling. ROgers allows you to passthrough the natural signal but Bell seems to compress most if not all of their channels to 720p.

I can live with that but from time to time my obsessive nature usually leads me to search for answers as to how the the receiver should be set up (720p vs 1080i) especially on a 1080p set like mine.

Aw well, i'm getting off topic...

Just for the record, Bell TV (aka ExpressVu) is locked-down tight at the moment. Bell migrated all the channels to Nagra3....and Dish Network (US) will be next.
 
I guess that was geared at me b/c of my "stealing" comment, but I am fully aware... I also have an FTA setup. ;)

If man can make it, man can break it... When the coders figure it out, I'll most definately still be a subscriber though. I could never give up my 9242 functionalities... I tried a Viewsat HD PVR (or HDD add-on as a PVR) and it was the most unreliable piece of technology I have ever worked with.

The PVR works when it feels like, the DD 5.1 is terrible, and it is only a single tuner "PVR"

It seems i'm getting off topic again... Kung Fu Panda looked incredible though LOL
 
No problem, there was a time when something like 17% of the people watching EV were doing it gratis - according to some stats.

I think anybody dropping $500 on an HD FTA setup is in for a major disappointment....looks like European Nag3 signal has been secure for a couple of years. Anybody without a sub will be left staring at a black screen....for now, anyway. ;)

BEV was no longer fun to "test" when they started to actively target the testers.

I remember when the AVR was around and keys wouldn't change for 6+months.

In some ways all the freeloaders benefited BEV because a lot of casual testers became valid subs.
