My problems started 14 months ago, with a burning stomach, and to cut the long story short, I have been diagnosed with LPR by ENT, but GI except gastritis haven't found a cause yet. One thing I never suffered from was heartburn, I have suffered all the rest knot in the throat, difficult breathing, sinuses, hunger pain, etc, but never heartburn. I am having 24hr impedance manometry test done in 8 days time. I was advised to come off my meRAB(80mg nexium a day) for at least 7 days, so I decided to cut down to 40mg for 3 days, and then stop all together for 10days before the test.
After my last nexium 3 days ago, I am having horrible heartburn, but the type which you feel more in upper chest and throat, so how come I am getting heartburn that I never had before?
But the strange thing is that even on 80mg of nexium I had the lump in the throat feeling, but for the last 3 days that I have suffered heartburn I don't have typical lump feeling, etc.
Anyone else? I guess after all this time on nexium, just wondering why heartburn now.

Also I have had 3 endoscopies by 2 different GIs over the last year, the last one was in April, do you think if there was something really bad they would have seen it?

I guess it is one of those typical days that even gaviscon is not helping, and I am getting scared.

I've had LPR for about 2 years now. My gastro doc told me to stop prevacid once I didn't need it. Well....I've gone months without it but now the heartburn is back with a vengeance! When I had my first upper GI I had no ideal that I suffered from acid reflux(didn't remeraber having heartburn). The doc said that some of us have it without really noticing it. I recently started feeling like food was starting to stick again! I am so horrified of getting food actually stuck as I have twice before! I immediately go back on PPI's and GERRAB diet.
I said all of this to say that it's weird how we can have LPR and not even realize that we have the symptoms! I'm feeling them now after all these months and I have to return to my diet and meRAB. I tasted the sphagetti sauce that I'm cooking for my family and the heartburn is almost unbearable! I wonder if I'll have it for the rest of my life.

I've had 2 upper GI's and the doc saw esophagitis(acid damage or erosion of the esophagus). It's all a matter of avoiding certain acidic fooRAB and allowing the esophagus to heal from the damage. I also suffer from sore throats and ear infections because of it! I guess that even if you go off the PPI's we might need to stick to the diet to avoid going back to where it all began.

I supposedly had an ulcer 2 years ago (by the time I got the endoscopy it has been 5 months on PPI medication and nothing unusual) and never really had heartburn. Only for a couple of days when I stopped pain medication that caused the supposed ulcer. I had some nausea and my stomach just didn't feel right, and it hurt. Then I got off the PPI medication for a year until this week. I did stay on a kind of bland diet and didn't take the pain medication until recently. In retrospect, it was durab to take the pain medication without thaking the PPI along with it.

2 weeks ago I just thought I had a sorethroat and sinus infection. Thinking back I guess some of the sore throat/burning was from getting gastritis or whatever it is I have now. It seems to have just snuck up on me. If I'm having burning that bad I figure I'd better take the PPI medication because I don't want permanent damage.

Thanks for the replies.
I guess my worry is that I believe my condition is now chronic, after all these months of medicatin as soon as I came off it, I am suffering.
Last time I came off nexium all together was 3 months ago for 24hr ph-metry test, and not even once I experieced heartburn, this time around as soon as I came off I started suffering. I guess I am wondering, am I getting worst.
I am so tired that there are no answers.

Just wondering what you guys mean by bland diet. I know I shouldn't have coffee, but that is my great weak point and I have one a day, but I don't have anything with tomatoe sauce, nothing fatty or spicy, no citrus fruits.

What else should I do?

The bland diet I'm eating and was on when I had an ulcer was eating microwave potatoes with nothing on it, bread plain, steam vegies with nothing on it, non fat yogurt/milk, bananas, water, pretzels, apple juice, beans, some salad without dressing. It's not the most exciting diet but at least I can get full.

I'm not a coffee drinker nor do I eat spicy fooRAB or deep fried fooRAB. I eat extremely low fat anyways. Hope this helps.

Thans for the reply. It is very similar to the diet that I was on, but I kind of didn't stick to it that religiously. I will give it a try agin after my tests.
I will try anything to get some relief.
