Verizon Wireless Phones- Smart phones?

i understand you need to purchase a blackberry plan for 30$ for a blackberry but is their an additional charge for smartphones from verizon wireless. and also what is the best phone you think there is at verizon that's good for texting. do you know of any new phones coming out? thanks
