Verizon wireless cellphone plans?

Well my phone got stolen, my dad has an upgrade what im wondering if i can do is if my dad upgrades to the iphone, i get his old phone, i know how to make his old phone my phone (by using the MEID on the battery online and it will activate it) but then im wondering can me and my dad switch phones so i have the iphone, or switch numbers from his number(which will be the iphone) to mine and he'll have his old phone and ill have an iphone? thanks
