Verizon Wireless Blackberry?

I purchased a phone from my friend who just recently canceled his blackberry plan, so i decided to use his phone and get a plan on my verizon account. When i tried to activate it, it said that it was on the lost/stolen list. I had my friend's dad call and take it off the list, but i am still having problems.

Basically its not lost or stolen..so is it possible that the owner can verify this and that I can activate this phone?
