Verizon upgrade/insurance claim?

I recently gave my wife my upgrade because her phone was messing up. She had dropped it in some soup about 6-9 months before it ever started acting up. I figured that since it had gotten wet that I could not turn it in on an insurance claim. When we went to verizon to do the upgrade, she asked them something about the phone acting up because of water damage. The lady showed us the sticker, and said that if it had tunred pink/red then it would show that it had water damage.

So since the phone does not show any water damage on the sticker, can I turn it in on an insurance claim and get me another phone...or can I transfer it to my number and then turn it in?
