Verizon: switching from feature phone to smartphone. Clarification?

Here's what is happening: I have an LG Dare with the $10 Data plan and $15 texting plan and I want to switch to this Blackberry that I'm about to buy. I already know about the $30 data plan, and that's why I want to switch, it's not that much more monthly, yet I'll still have a lot more features.

My billing cycle ends on the 25th of every month, what I'm asking is: How do I make the switch without being charged twice?

What I want to do: On the 24th, I'm gonna turn off my texting and data plan on the Dare, and block texting and web access so I don't accidentally use it. On the next day, the monthly cycle should be not include the previous features since they're off, and then I can add the Blackberry which would be the $30 added on instead.

If I cut off the features like I mentioned, will it charge me the same 10 and 15 that would normally go on the bill? Or will it act like I never had the plan and charge the texts as single price per text and data per MB?

The Verizon booth mentioned that I could just switch straight to the Blackberry on the 26th and it would not charge me for the Texting&Data plans that were previously on the Dare since I wouldn't have used it at all. Which method is the best without being charged $10, $15, and $30?
