Verizon Push to Talk

If you have your own group of people that will move with you, the answer is yes, it works and is better than Nextel, since they have a reliable network compared to Nextel direct-connect.

There plans are only $5 additional per phones for unlimitted PTT and they wave the $25 activation fee when you buy a phone.

These phones use the latest CDMA technology Data Only Revision A (DORA), so the initial PTT call set up time is just as good as Nextel.

The other advantage is that Verizon has a web portal to update your contact info and has presence info. on the phones (similar to any chat service) and it is nationwide coverage.

Exactly and that is another reason why its better than the new Sprint direct-connect phones that are using Q-chat technology, since I heard those only work in the CDMA DORA markets, not the ones that are 1X (pre-existing CDMA technology).

I'm about to purchase a ptt phone for hubby (because of other features). My call plan lets us call any other Verizon subscriber without burning minutes, so what's the benefit of ptt? I've been told the ptt relies upon the same towers as my cell signal.

Ah sorry havent been around lately. I actually took this phone back as I wanted to get a smart phone. Anyways when I did have this phone it was great. The PTT was much better than Nextel IMO. If anyone is thinking about getting this phone, go for it.

For sure Mobile to Mobile is pretty much the same thing in a way. PTT is much better if one needs to call a large group of people at one time. Or also in the construction world this is nice to have to get a hold of someone on the fly. The PTT runs on the data signal not on the voice side.
