Verizon phone Question?

Ok I recently bought a Motorola V710 from Verizon from E-Bay. I have Alltel service, but the software on the phone needs to be updated so I can get into my Access Apps. and my bluetooth working. Ok I called 1-800-Alltel1 for technical assistance on why I cant open my access applications option to download me a ringtone. They tried to walk me through it by selecting -menu-settings-security-data calls or information-. Well all was well until the data part which I didnt have on the phone. They told me to take it to my local Alltel dealer and they would upgrade my software for free because the software on the phone was out of date. So I just got back from the Alltel place and they said my phone wouldnt register or the computer wouldnt recognize it or something of that nature. Im not familar with this type of stuff, I mean I understand whats wrong and what needs to happen, but just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same or simular type of problem? All I want is ringtones. Thats the only reason I want BT to work or Access Applications. My G/F told me that I might be able to have them sent to me in a txt message from the internet, but I tried once and it never sent me the txt message. Can anyone help me get REAL ringtones or help with my software update? Can I take my phone to a Verizon dealer and have this just update the software?

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!

Correction, this thread needs to be in the Alltel forum.

Seems like you posted this in error in the Cingular forum... ;)
first i'll answer your question then i'll move it to the Alltel forum where Agenthibby might be of further assistance...

See one problem is that most carriers will not flash a phone not branded by them with their software, so even though you might be able to use the phone for calls, not having the proper software will not let you use the browser as well as the messaging part of the phone.
