Verizon looks back at 2008...shouldn't we!

I'm an Alltel customer that is being intergrated into Verizon in the coming months. I know absolutely nothing about Verizon. After reading through this thread it definitely gives me pause about being a Verizon customer.

I have to say, customer service is a great thing. It's nice to call a company and have people treat you fair and be polite. I've never had any problems with Alltel in the customer service department. In fact, there's a guy here in Lubbock that I sincerely hope gets to keep his job because he's really good at customer service and he tries out and knows about all the phones. (Thanks for the C-net tip, I'd heard about them, but now I will definitely check them before getting my next phone.)

I don't like AT&T. I was with Cingular from 99-05 and when I left them Nov 05 they could have cared less. That bothered me because I was one of the prompt paying customers. The reason I switched was because of a dead zone (well, several). With Alltel I've never had a dropped call, ever.

So, overall--is Verizon good? I'm mostly looking for calling and texting. I have My Circle and it saves me a ton on money. My plan is 79.99 right now and I've not seen anything better yet.

I always think it's a good idea to ask about a company from someone who is less in love so that you can get a good feel about both ends of the spectrum. If that makes any sense.

Thanks for the input.

Remember, you won't be forced to change plans or anything right away.

I will list pros and cons of Verizon Wireless and then provide you with a website which will help you make an educated decision...that way it isn't all me blabbering about how great Verizon is.

Pros:

 • Nationwide Coverage--Very Competitive
 • Large array of features you may not have had with Alltel
 • Expected to have 4G services available within the year--something you wouldn't have seen with Alltel for 3+ years.
Also, in all of my customer service experiences, they are pretty good. The stores...eh---they could improve. Also, most Alltel stores will be inspected by Verizon to see if they meet the requirements to become Verizon stores.

Cons:

 • Expensive...you better take out loan .
 • phones are limited to almost Verizon only applications. This is improving, but very slowly.
 • mixed reviews of customer service. Sometimes, the word of a new product or service doesn't reach every employee fast enough.
Overall, they are the favorite of many people dedicated to business/travel. They provide productivity devices with extensive coverage which is always improving.

Here is my favorite quote though about Verizon:
"
Verizon isn't a leader in giving the most minutes for the dollar, and, if there is a feature they don't think will bring any new customers through to door, they just don't think they need to offer it."

My favorite comparison website is http://mountainwireless.com.

Here is a direct link to their website for Verizon Wireless with an extensive list of pros and cons:
