Verizon FIOS, 2 Routers, 1 Modem. Possible?

Need some help. 2 Verizon FIOS routers, 1 modem. One of the routers is downstairs, and one is in my room. When they're both connected via COAX, the downstairs connection gets interrupted a lot. Both routers are the same. If someone can give me a basic idea of what settings I need to change (ie. DHCP, static IPs, etc.) I can probably do it. I have basic networking knowledge, but this situation just has me stumped.

Is it possible to have the 2 routers set up without interfering with one another? I would greatly appreciate some assistance..I'm tired of having a wireless connection.
Edit: I don't want to/can't connect the 2 routers via LAN. I live in a large house, and the the 2 routers on either side of it. It would be impractical to run a cord through the house, and I can't run it through the attic either. I'm basically looking to have 2 rooms with LAN connections available without connecting the 2 routers. I got it to work, but as I already mentioned, the internet connection is unstable when I have both connected via COAX. Any ideas?

Sure, connect them together through the LAN ports.
Assign each a unique IP on the same subnet.
Disable DHCP on one of them.

Your connection likely cuts out due to fighting over multiple DHCP servers.
