Verizon cellphone, what's a "draft" and what does it do?

a draft is an unfinished text that is saved that you can go back to and decide to send to someone or not it happens by starting a text and then closing out before you send it or delete it
 
like when you're texting and you receive a message and view it, the current text you were writing goes to "drafts" and gets saved there.

i'm talking about draft in texting, where it's
Inbox
Outbox
Drafts
ect...

i have no idea what the point of "draft" is...
