verizon cell phone contracts...?

i have a phone through our small business and we buy all of our phones through from a local company. that company told me that i cannot have a one-year contract with my verizon phone. i see a one-year option on verizon website. my questions are (1) can i order my next phone online or can that company force me to buy there? (2) can that local company insist i keep my phone for 2 years? Our small company has no preference or policy on phone purchases.
