Verizon/Alltel Merger?

I'm still looking for information on the Verizon/Alltel merger. I walked into a Verizon store near Madison, WI. and asked if I could switch from Alltel to Verizon. It didn't seem to be a problem to them. Then they saw that my area code for my market was from the St. Louis area. They couldn't do anything because the St. louis market hasn't switched yet.
When will it happen?
