...your lifestyle? I'm an lacto vegetarian. Before I went vegetarian (a mere 5 months ago), I thought I may occasionally miss meat, eggs & seafood, simply because they were no longer in my diet and I had been used to consuming them for ~19.5 years. I decided to become a vegetarian because I simply didn't like meat or seafood, and haven't since I was around 7 (13 years ago), also, I felt guilty because I considered myself someone who was against animal cruelty (even worked at the SPCA for a number of years in highschool & university) and in a group in my community) yet I still ate meat. I waited this long to become vegetarian because up until I was 17, I was still living under my parents roof, where they would not (under ANY circumstances) allow me to become vegetarian (and believe me, I tried). After that (up to 5 months ago) I was in a dormatory in university, meaning I was eating off a cafeteria menu. The dorm strictly prohibited consuming food in the dorms, so that meant I was forced to eat what the cafeteria provided, meaning I couldn't be vegetarian and healthy at the same time. However, 5 months ago I finally got my own apartment. I promised myself that the day I began moving into my new place I would change my lifestyle and go vegetarian. I did, and I've never been happier (food-wise).
However, since I went vegetarian, I haven't found I've missed it (meat, etc) at all. In fact, when I walk by the meat section in the grocery store, I find myself wondering how I managed to "choke down" meat and associated products for so long. If even the smallest (unbeknownst to me) shred of me missed my old (omnivorous) lifestyle, walking by the meat section, or going on a "animal rights" website or reading an animal rights book immediately takes that small (conciously not noticed) shred of yearning out of me.
What about you, fellow vegetarians, vegans or pescatarians (sp?)? Do you ever miss the meat, eggs, dairy, seafood, or general meat by-products you used to consume (or any combination thereof)?
