If you are wanting to edit and not just copy it, then yes you will need to do this using your computer. You will need a video capture device. Dazzle makes an inexpensive one that connects to your USB port. On the other end it has connections for s-video, composite video and audio connections.

It also comes with software that allows you to edit the video, as well as add music, sounds, pictures, etc. You can also make a menu screen for the DVD.

Go to http://www.pinnaclesys.com, and look for the Dazzle line of products. I believe it is called the "Dazzle DVD Recorder". They can also be found at most electronics stores.

I bought a Dazzle capture device a few years back and I use all the time to transfer my camcorder videos to DVD.

ok so im making a wedding video for my parents anniversary, except their original wedding video is on vcr.
i need to get this onto my computer (to edit) somehow, ive heard people talking about dvd recorders - and yes we have a panasonic dvd recorder

just wondering if anyone knows how to do this?
much appreciated, thanks

Take a scart cable & connect the output of your VCR to the input of your DVD Recorder, then take another scart to your telly.Switch everything on. Insert the tape into the VCR, Insert a blank DVD into the Recorder.Set input selector on Recorder until you see the Tape on your telly. Usually AV1 or AV2. Start to playback the tape & press "Record on the recorder. After making the disc just insert it into your drive on your computer & copy the folders onto your computer, a good place to copy them to is "My Documents" My Videos & then you will know where to find them in future.
Note. Early VCRs had 2 scart sockets, one is Input only & the other is In/Out. make sure you connect to the in/out socket.
