Varying Transfer Rates

Why does the transfer rate vary so greatly in such short spans of time in gnutella ..?

sometimes itz 0 and then itz 786 kbs then its 33kbs then itz 70kbps ...

i'm using bearshare 2.0.9
 
It is dependent on the Servamt you are loading from, his speed, how much bandwitdth allowed for output and how busy it is. It sure does take a lot of time though.
