I have been coughing for six months - non-stop. can't cough up any phlem, I strongly suspect this coincides with my going on beta blocker? What should I do? My Dr has now put me on Singulair (last five days) with no relief. Can I stop taking the beta blocker????

That is a side effect of the beta blockers. Talk with your doctor about changing to a different med. Not all do that. The singulair won't help if the bb is the cause. This is not an asthma variant...just a side effect of the med. I have the same issue on Lisinopril but not on Diovan.

I would suggest talking to your doctor before taking yourself off of BP medication. High BP is nothing to fool with.

My doctors only ever had me on Calcium Channel Blockers and diruetics for my rabroadP. They said they didn't want to chance the other types because of the effect they can have on asthma and I had that diagnosis first. Norvasc and Dyazide worked well for me.

I would advise asking your dr is you can try a different medicine to replace the beta blocker, & see if the coughing stops. If it does, that's great, if it doesn't then you will know that you need to continue searching for the cause. Feel better!
