Distant dreams

I am an aspiring author. It is a dream of mine to write for big company's and everything in between. My question is, is there any way to get work published in the Vancouver area (okay okay.. there probably is) but how would i go about it, i have searched every where online, and am finding nothing. please help me!
by the way, I write everything, from short stories, to poetry, to song lyrics, and am currently working on a novel.
