V strom owners sound off!

Saw the suzuki v strom 650 at the bike show the other day. Might just have to buy one. Looking for input from current owners.

My current dinosaur, the 1980 Yamaha xs850 is getting long in the tooth (42k) and the v strom looked to be as good a combination as anything. Well that and the shadow ace 750 that Honda makes. Either or, there will be the prerequisite goodies involved tallying around 12 - 1300. Oh well.

That would be damn near breaking tradition. My average test drive has been 1 mile. After that, I can tell if it's good enough to buy or garbage. Well that, and I look over the bike very closely.

Heading in the direction of Vstrom, just a matter of time.

What kind of horsepower is this thing making? I'm guessing around 60.

thanks everybody.

My wife surprised me with one for Father's day last year, I've loved every second on it. Good power, great ergos, lotsa fun. Plus being able to comfortably go wherever there is a path rocks. I've had it for almost a year, not one problem or hiccup. Highly recommend it.

my V-Strom was my first bike... I like it, but I don't really think it's a very good beginner bike (sits kinda high) But where I am at now, I am comfortable with it, my only problem is long trips tend to kink my shoulders a little bit.

I'm Chimp's wife, he beat me to the reply. So yeah, I up and surprised him with this bike, almost got him the 1100 but the only reason he'd need more power was if we'd be riding 2-up. Since I ride my own, that's never happening. The 650 was easier on my checkbook too. It has been almost a year later and he still loves it like day 1.

I love nearly any bike that RUNS. Much less gets me outta the parking lot.

My first scooter was a 1973 Honda CB350. I spent more on parts getting it to work properly than I paid for the bike. Wonder if it's still running after all these years.

You are very astute S83. I plan to drive the XS850 until hell freezes over. Which reminds me, we just had 0 with -30 F windchill, does that count?

I'm looking for the next bike. Plan to drive the XS for another year or two. Right now, the XS has 42 k on it, and is in the shop for some problem with the shaft and the final drive gear. May have been able to do it myself, but I want it done, and done before the 4th of July, or August, or September. Or next to my other bike, 'in storage' as it were.
