My father helped my husband and I buy a little starter home. My husband was transferred and my father "bought" our part of the home and put the title in his name alone. My brother was staying in the home, paying my father rent. Just recently he stopped pay his electric bill and the power was turned off. He then illegally "hooked" up power to the home and got caught. We were unaware that the power was still in our name. The home has not been in our name for 7 years. How will this effect us. We have never been contacted or received any bills. I haven't spoken to my brother for a year or so. What do we need to do?
My father paid to get the power turned back on and in his name with no problem. Will we be responsible for whatever my brother didn't pay? Thanks in advance for your answers.
