USMC ITB Camp Geiger liberty question.?

My fiance is currently at Camp Geiger for ITB. He was told that they would have off base liberty on the weekends except for the first one. For the first weekend they just had on base liberty for 8 hours. They were told they would have off base liberty this coming weekend though after they spend a week out in the field. The last time I was able to talk to him was Sunday night because they obviously can not charge their cell phones in the field. He asked me to get a hotel for this coming weekend and come down there. I have booked the hotel and plan on leaving town around noon this Friday so I can get there in time to wait in the hotel for him to get back to the base and call me and ask to come get him. I started googling information about it though and saw that it gets cancelled pretty frequently. Has anyone been through this and know what the possibility of this is? Or how often it gets cancelled? I'm starting to really worry that I'm going to get down there and find out that his leave has been cancelled (it's about a 7 hour drive). Any answers will be apppreciated! Thank you!
