Using VCR without tuner with cable service?

I have cable service from comcast but do not have a cable box (cable line plugs directly into the tv from the wall). Will I be able to record programs using a VCR that does not have a tuner? My old vcr just stopped working and I am unsure of what type to purchase as a replacement.
