hey guys,
i am planning to buy a N73, currently i use N6230, i have saved lots of important calender items and SMS, is there a way to have all of them on N73?

not only calender items n messeges, i want contacts too!
if i use Nokia PC suite for backup, it saves those files in *.nfb format for backup and *.nfc format for content saved! will i be able to use these formats for N73?

I recently acquired an N80 and transfered my data successfully from a 6230.

First, do a complete backup of your 6230 using PC Suite with the Backup application. Then, do a complete restore to the N80 with the same application.

To the best of my knowledge, the following data will be copied:

1) Contacts
2) Calendar
3) Messages, including SMS and Multimedia messages (you have to take this with a pinch of salt because only messages in your inbox will be transfered)
4) All multimedia items on the phone memory. This includes sounds and graphics.

Hope this helps.

thanx to both of u guys!

"mrcreativity" i want to know more about SMS getting transferred! are u sure messeges in "inbox" are the only ones tht get tranferred? cuz i have saved important messeges in different folders! u need to save them too!

oh 1 more thing "mrcreativity", since it shows tht you own a SE k750i, could you tell me if i can tranfer all above things to a SE phone such as k790i etc?

thanx again!

I'm pretty sure only items from the inbox can be transfered.

The thing is, I did the data transfer and then sold my 6230, so didn't get the opportunity to confirm what was transfered.

This was discussed in another thread on HOFO and someone else confirmed for me that only the contents of the inbox were transfered.

As for the K750, the only thing I've ever done with the pc is update the firmware. The Pc software i got with my Se is absolutely appalling and I can't even remember how it works.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Chantain, when you buy your N73, you need to install Nokia's PC Suite and Lifeblog onto your computer. You can set these up to automatically sync, and then all of your contacts/calendar/sms/pictures/videos will automatically be synched to your computer for you, so you'll always have a backup. doesn't get much better than that.

I cant remember as I sold my 6230 a month ago. But i read in another thread that it wasn't possible to copy messages from other folders to the inbox.

It looks like there should be a separate thread on how much PC Suite sucks and what features we would like.

Honestly I don't see the big problem with PC Suite. it does everything I need it to. I don't experience difficulties, it syncs my contacts/calendar/to-do list/notes/sms/mms/pics/vids via bluetooth without me having to touch my phone, it installs apps and lets me browse my phone and send/receive messages, lets me tether, what more are you wanting out of it?

I'm not saying PC Suite isn't good but it could certainly do with a few more features.

For example, it should provide the user with the ability to choose exactly what to back up and restore. Giving a choice between phone memory or card or both is just doesn't cut it for me.

Now that Nokia has generously come up with the ability to update firmware by the end user, I'd like the choice to backup only my contacts, calender, all messages and notes so that I can restore the same after I update the firmware.

I'm sure others could come up with a few more features they would like it to have.

Don't get me wrong, I think Nokia PC Suite is the best Mobile Sync application I know. Its a hell of a lot better than the Sony Ericsson suite and Palm desktop any day.

You realize that by syncing with MS Outlook, you CAN only backup your contacts/calendar/notes, right? And lifeblog backs up messages.

I know where you're coming from. But do you really expect people to buy a couple of hundred dollars worth of software to back up contacts/calendar/notes? People have already paid Microsoft for Windows, there's no way many are going to pay them even more for Office, which goes for any Office Suite.

Buying a Nokia smartphone isn't exactly a cheap proposition.

Btw, Lifeblog doesn't work on all smartphones. The E series isn't supported.

So you see why I would like a selective backup and restore as a part of Nokia PC Suite.

I support the position that PC Suite sucks.

I just spent several hours transferring my contacts from a 6230i to a 6290 and needed to reformat many of the contacts, which meant opening every one individually. I wish I could see a spread sheet of all the data for the contacts and just move it around between cells. What's more, when you go through and reorganize a bunch of contacts like that, PC Suite asks you every time if you want to update the phone. So you're constantly hitting "no" on all kinds of pop up windows or waiting for the phone to update between every change you make (which is slow).

PC Suite is also inexplicably slow. It's such a simple set of programs, but every action in it lags.

Worst of all, it constantly makes Windows crash and has no clear protocol for what order you're supposed to disconnect the phone from the usb cable when you're done (which seems to contribute to the crashing problem). And it made the 6290 crash a couple times too. It is the single program that has more made my computer crash than any other. I used to have an older version of the program on a different computer and it did the same thing. It was a relief when I didn't need it anymore and could uninstall it. I'm unhappy that I now have to use it again.

For me, PC Suite is just trash.

I agree. Apparently you can't just buy MS Outlook - you've got to buy the whole MS Office Suite. Of course this is an MS issue, not a Nokia issue.

Now if Nokia could give us "bare bones" calendar software for our PCs, that would be cool.
