I use Lidocane patches and Gabapentin plus narcotic pain reliever (Endocet 10-325) to treat the pain of endometriosis.

Last month I began the Gabapentin at the begining dosage of 300 mgs per day. A month later I was directed to increase the dosage to 900 mg per day, a huge jump. I followed the orders a few days, and I am currently a mess. I am nodding out, falling asleep, forget what I am talking about, way to much medication!

Tracey,

I also have used Gabapentin for 4 years (2100mg). Although I still use a cane and a mobility scooter on occasion it has given me tremendous relief. Prior to Gabapentin I had to use a walker just to get to the washroom. Most nights were spent laying in bed unable to move in sweat soaked sheets. I still have sciatica pain on most days but oh so much less. Gabapentin helps me to get sleep at night and allows me the mobility to walk around my home.

Hi, I use both the patch and gabapentin. I just stated the gabapentin about a week ago but I have noticed that if I take it both in the morning and evening it works well. I do get the munches but I don't think that it's just the meRAB doing it. Just keep the low cal stuff handy if need be. Now the patches, I've been using for several years. They are wonderful for me. I can't use narcatics for other medical reasons so the strongest that I can use is ultram. The patches are a great substitute for me. The can be cut to fit the area you need them for. I haven't had any real side effects other then sometimes I forget to take them off but I think that a brain fart not a side effect.

yesterday was a bad pain day, pain I couldn't reach (some of you know what I mean by that). I doubled the Gabapentin to try it out and all it did was make me really sleepy. The full sensation of the pain was present and I feel that if I take any more in one dosage I'll be as zorabied out as I was on vicodin 3x a day. By the end of the night I had used my tens unit, ice pack, muscle rub, flexoril, IB 800, stretching and finally a vicodin to shut out the pain. I slept on the floor and that helped. I'm on my way to see my Dr. to see what else I can do. This morning I'm groggy and not thinking very clearly, this is the part I hate. I'm even thinking of retraining for the job market because I'm really pushing it as it is and I'm not working full time. Has anyone else had to change professions because of your pain?:(

Hello, I am on Gabapentin for my leg pain due to my back. Possible pinch nerves etc. will find out more later in Sept.
My mother and grandparents are both of this same medication, for their diabeates. I don't think I have any kind of side affect from it.

Recently my left hand has been becoming nuraber more and more started with my pinky now my ring finger and the side of my palm. I have no idea what the heck is going on and I'm just going to try and wait til I go back to the doctors the 23rd of Sept. and go from there. I don't know what to do about. If Gabapentin is for nerve damage or something along those lines then I don't know why this is happening to my left hand.

anyway, best of luck to you and I hope it helps and starts to change around with the muchies.

Hello there I to have taken Gabapentine for about 8 years and have had great results from it. Granted the dose has had to be uped over the years and I now take 2400 mg each day 1600 at night 800 in the am. If I have a really bad morning I add 400 more and do get tired. I dont do this if I have to go to work. I did gain some weight but it evened off after a few weeks. Now because of the severity of my back conditions I am also on Lyrica during the day and Amitriptiline. The Lyrica is in the am as well. I never thought of the Lyrica as helping me gain the weight or sweets cravings, will have to check into that??? I have found that I would not have been able to function without the Gabapentine and if it was me would not hesitate at least trying it. Everyone is different and reacts differently to a drug but for me personally I would be VERY upset if they ever took this drug off the market. Hope this helps. Janice

Sometimes I wonder what I look like on the Gabapentin, when I catch myself head down, tongue hanging out, in a little hallucination dream...Then I'll jerk, and get the falling sensation, until I jerk again awake.

That is why I am at home with some here to watch out for me. Last night I kept jumping up after each little "dream" to document it, and I never could wake up enough to write, and if I woke up too much, then the "dream" would be gone. I kind of love it. I don't think it makes for good sleep though. and don't get the wrong idea

Anyone else with the weird dreams, the jerking around?

My Dr. prescribed Gabapentin just recently also at 3x a day and I have found it really doesn't help. I have to take it with IBs 800 in order to get some relief. I have Spondylolithesis grade 4 on the L-5, S-1 with constant sciatic pain. Maybe my pain is just too much for it to handle. I take Flexoril at night and vicodin when I can't take it anymore and stretch every chance I get.

There are lots of us on here with severe sciatica pain so
.

Your dosage is probably too low and you have to be titrated up. I take 2100 mg a day. I have had problems for over 40 yrs and am at the stage of no more can be done. Gabapentin is the only thing that has helped me at all. It is not an narcotic nor is it a drug that you just take and it works immediatly. It takes time to get any relief.

I've only used Gaba (4 years now) for nerve pain (stress the use for nerve pain) associated with back probs (20+yrs), and to me.. (personally), it has soooo helped and I can actually walk and sleep without searing leg pain. I can even concentrate. Gaba / Neuro pentin does make you sleepy, and takes a bit of time to learn how to deal with and although it helps with nerve pain, it masks your limitations which again, (sorry, mine, to me) I seem to trip on my arse alot more. Hope this makes sense. Of course a dosage will have to be found that works for you. Good luck with it.

I just started taking gabapentin - first dose last night. I've been on lunesta for insomnia for a long time, but I think after last night that the gabapentin will do the trick just fine. My pm doctor suggested taking it at night, even after I'm up to the full dosage, because of the sleepy factor. I can't imagine taking it during the day and trying to halfway function.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. Gapapentin does not cause any degree of fatigue or sleepiness. But even when I'm prescribed muscle relaxants most don't sedate me after the first few weeks either.

Well, I tried not using Lunesta last night, but at 11:30 PM I decided I had to take it. The Gabapentin does help me sleep more soundly, though. We'll see how it goes as the dosage is increased every 3 days.
