Using 'find' reboots device

Hello
I've been using palm devices for nigh on 10 years now, and my last one the Tungsten E, had this annoying habit of carcking it every time I wanted to use the search function, I simply assumed that it was a hardware problem and suffered in silence for 2 years, today I received a TX and loaded all my data on it and kick me in the head but using find on the TX causes a reboot, same problem!!
what's wrong with my files?
how can I fix it
thanks

What I did to get around the "Find" problem, and revolutionize the "Find" functionality, was to get "FindHack," which isn't a hack any more but a full fledge program, available here:

I swear by it.

Now - solution to your problem: you can instruct FindHack to seek certain "sets" of apps - I have settings for:

  • just contacts,
  • just calendar and tasks,
  • just TealDoc and MobileDB,
  • and then one for "all."

It's important to remember that "all" does include silly things such as "hotsync;" only databases I'd want searched anyway, which is around 8-10 (all the above plus a couple like Progect, for example). By starting with just "contacts," and adding different programs to it until you get the crash - you'll find the offending program.

It may seem a lot to spend for fixing a problem, but you'll gain a magnificent searching ability, only searching apps you search often that are indeed searchable. Indeed, that may be your problem right there - the TX is trying to search something that's locked or not playing nice - FindHack fixes that by only choosing YOUR apps that YOU want searched. You also get a list of common searches, saved if you wish, and the ability to use wildcards - searching (I can't remember if it's B*b or B?b) would search for Bib, Bab, Bob, Bub, . . . you get the idea. It's invaluable to me and a huge reason I would never go to PPC.

I think you'll find the purchase worthwhile as a proggie to have, and also solve your nasty crash problem by isolating the offending application. Cheers/ Pases

thanks a lot for that
I ended up talking palm support advice of reloading the programs one by one, and checking if it would crash so it's all sweet now, even though I don't know what program it was ( I didn't reload all the programs I had)

I had exactly the same problem. Turned out it was WordSmith which is a shame as it's my editor of choice! I've written to Bluenomad support who say they're aware of it... I just wish they'd release an update soon. In the meantime I'm living with the crashes...
