using and charging iphone battery?

i couldn't find the direct answer anywhere -- but would it damage the battery in the long run if I use the iphone simultaneously while it's being charged? I've had experience with other cellphones in the past where it appears (though I can't prove it) that doing so damages the battery's life. thanks.
by "damaging the battery life" I mean that the fully charged phone can only sustain a much shorter duration of use
