Using a Sony Cyber Shot DSC-F707, i am new at photography, any advice?

i have a Sony Cyber Shot DSC-F707
i'm taking my first ever photography class in highschool this year
never really experimented with photog before...
i looooove art though, so i know i will enjoy this :)

is this a good camera?
any advice?
ps. im using digital because it is REQUIRED
 
I started out using a Sony Cyber Shot. I think it is a wonderful camera for beginners.
