Using a chinese phone in canada?

I bought a oppo a520 cell phone in china but when i try to put my SIM card in, it says "no service" so i was wondering how you would be able to use this cell phone in canada with my rogers SIM card.
well i figures out that the frequency was different but is there any way to change the frequency of a phone?
