used v-strom price

Happened to stop by the local stealer (Honda) and happened across a 2004 v-strom.

Long and short of the story, bike was traded in or some such and looks to have less than 5 k on the odometer.

List price 5800, too high. The sales guy says "we have it on consignment, the guy traded it in on a atv....." at which point I begin to think.

1) was the bike traded in
2) is it on consignment
3) what kind of bs is the stealer trying to peddle me?

The stealer rep finishes said conversation with "well, offer 5 k and we'll see if he takes it."

To say I think there's a big steaming pile of bull is way too polite for my mannerisms, I won't say what I thought, I would get band.

with that, thoughts? Not serious about the bike, expecially at 5 k for a bike that last time I checked moved for about 6.5 k new.

i take it it's the 650?

local honda place is equally overpriced - actually, both locations. one has a lot of stock but is priced silly high, other had crap stock and the sales guy that works there REEKS of cigarettes.

Oh, yeah, that too.

I just think it's fishy that the salesguy uses "traded in" and "on consignment" in the same breath.

The previous owner traded in the v-strom for atv, apparently more of an outdoorsman. No surprise, atv's have outnumbered bikes for several years.

Used VStroms are scarce around here. One local dealer has a waiting list for them. In fact I was in just checking out his new shop and he was trying to encourage me to trade mine in on something. He said he already has it sold. So that could drive the price up at least in some areas. On another note a hundred miles away a dealer sold a 2005 DL650 about 4500 miles for $5300.00

In some areas they were slow to catch on, but the more people discover them there popularity grows. They have quite a following. Personally I think there a bargain new.

The dealer I bought mine from said when they first came out he couldn't sell one. Now he can't keep them in stock.
