used car help please someone?

i just bought a 96 suburban from a used car lot i took it thru inspection and it failed. It fauled because they said it doesn't have service engine soon light doesn't come on. I called the dealership i bought it from he said since i paid cash once i drove it off the lot i can't bring it back is that true. Can i take it back or what can i do?
ok i did a testdrive round the block but when driving it if i would have seen a check engine lite i wouldn't have purchacesed it. if u read what i wrote it the obd saying that it doesn't lite up meaning even if i drove off the lot for a test drive it woodn't have showed any ways
 
anytime you buy a used car or truck its up to you as buyer to know what shape its in before you buy it and there is no lemon laws to cover used cars way to check used cars is type how to check used cars and get a check list to follow sorry only thing you can do now is take to a shop have it fix
 
What he said is true except if your state has inspections. Most states that have vehicle inspections have rules that any car sold must be able to pass inspection. As the state department that handles auto inspections they can tell you if there is such a law in your state.
