Used 2005 Ford Focus for $6000...Good Buy?

So I'm looking for a car right now (my 96 infinity i30 is just not doin it for me anymore and has had a few issues i dont want to run into again). I came across a very clean 2005 Ford Focus on ksl.com being sold by a used car dealer for $5,995. I took it on a test drive today and it drove just perfect, not one problem at all (and i was being very nit-picky on it as well). The only thing I could see that was wrong with it was the power side/rear-view mirrors weren't working (probably an easy thing to fix/not very costly i would hope). But when I got home, my dad had called a buddy of his who is a used car dealer/tower as well who has sold us three pretty crappy cars in the past that had hidden problems with them, and all he did was talk a lot of crap about the 05 Ford Focus I have my eye on. So my dad went with what he had to say and shot down the chance of me getting a co-singed loan and purchasing the Focus. His dealer friend had said that Ford Focus's are the worst car ever built by Ford and have a lot of transmission problems and sooner or later sometime between 50 and 75,000 miles it will go out and I'll be screwed (the Focus i'm looking at has 63,000 miles on it). However, my brother in law works at a Ford dealership in California and told me that it was actually a really good buy and that the guy my dad talked to was just a hater. Is this true about the Ford Focus's? Do they end up having a lot of problems like that where i'm going to have to pay thousands of dollars for repair? I'm pretty sure my dad will come around once he talks to my brother in law but I just want to know if this car is a good buy and will last me another 5 years or so? If somebody could help me with this problem that would be great! I'll take all of your answers into consideration. Thank You!
