USB Wireless LAN adapter?

I just bought a Sony Blue Ray DVD player that is wireless for internet but was unaware that I also need to buy a USB wireless LAN adapter (it didnt state that on the box). Do I have to buy the Sony one (lists at 79 bucks!!!) or can I buy any LAN adapter. Saw some for $19 which is more reasonable,
