HI Guys

I am living in Austria, Vienna. This Summer some motherfucker stole my third Bike !!

And now i want to buy a new one --- 848.

I am thinking to buy the 848 in the States and import it to Austria.

So now the question is does anybody now the technical difference between a European 848 and the USA 848??

Thanks in advance!
Thomas

I'm not sure there is one. The US model has more reflectors on it, but that's about the only difference I can find. When I got here to Belgium, I checked the spec sheets and it appears that the US model meets the same emissions standards as the EU model. I switched my display from USA to EU. The only thing that Belgium requires is that I get an inspection done, which I'm pretty sure it will pass. If it doesn't, I figure it's just a matter of money and time to make it do so. You should do some research on what it takes to register a foreign vehicle in Austria before you do this.

One other thing -- you may have to pay duties and taxes when you import it if you didn't own it for a period of time before importing it. You may want to see what the rules are for exemptions also.

Hi thanks for your answer.

How did you change from MP/h to km/h ??

About the import everything is clear for me, because a friend of mine is doing this business for along time.
He usally imports cars from the states to europe esp. austria.
so i know all the taxes and shipping costs i need to pay,and the registration shouldn`t be a problem but thanks anyway.

Ok so i will chek if i can get some more information about this issue, but if it is only the display i am quite happy. What about the headlights? Do they have the "E" marking?

The Problem with the 1098 is that i do not want to spend all my money on the bike!

I tested the 848 for one day, and i was pretty happy.

I already had :

98 Kawasaki ZX6-r
99 Suzuki GSX-R 750
03 Yamaha R1 - STOLEN
03 Yamaha R1 - STOLEN
05 Kawasaki ZX6-r (636) - STOLEN (5 weeks ago)

what do you like more on the 1098? HP?

Haha i like the discussions here.

In my personal opinion, there is no "bad" supersport bike anymore.
For example i was much faster with my Ninja then with my R1 !

So i think all the bikes are pretty good, and out on the street the rider counts more then the bike.

For example i was never overtaken by a duc, here in austria i have the feeling that the guys which can buy themselvs a duc, only have them to go for icecream and show it to everybody, so i will brake this rule - because this bikes are for riding, that`s it.

i don't know how it is in australia or in the states??
