US Cellular and Sprint towers?

I have a US Cellular telephone number that is sold to Sprint. I live in Lake Geneva WI If I change my telephone number to a Wisconsin number and when I cross the border into Illinois if I change it to a wisconson tel number will I not have any service. I called USC and get different answers every time I call
