I am a bit surprised they are trenching it.
But I am confused profoundly why a pump failure within a pump station would not be considered part and parcel of the oil pipeline.
pumps fail all of the time, usually when its the graveyard shift. the more pump stations you have, the greater the probability of a failure.
the sewer pump stations are always failing, leading to sewage spills. maybe the pump stations would be excellent at talking to the facility? and have enough capacity to handle all of the pipe volume that could be discharged after its been shutdown?
but the pipe breaking will be inevitable, so I think there is some spin involved there.
