US Army MP duties? (Military Police)?

Unless things RADICALLY changed since 1985, the US Army Military Police Corps were primarily trained as Site Security Specialists. They didn't get Law Enforcement Training unless they were stationed at a Garrison and then the Law Enforcement duties were OJT (On Job Training). There were many forms of MP's. The MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) for Military Police started with the # 95 followed by the following letters, "A" Security, "B" Law Enforcement "C" Corrections and "D" MWD Handler (K9 Cop). I was an Air Force Law Enforcement Specialist (AFSC 811X2) but worked extensively with the 95th Battalion/2330th MP Company stationed in Vogelweh, West Germany.
MP's have five major missions where LE is just one of them. And yes you can be deployed overseas after completing basic and advanced individual training. You can check out Ft. Leonard Wood Military police school for more information and I have included another link to give you a basic idea of what being and MP is all about. One day your standing on a gate and the next day your swinging from the turret of a HMMWV in full battle rattle. Mostly rear area support missions, area security, convoy security, handling of prisoners of war, and the list goes on. The joke when I was in was Multi Purpose (MP). It is a good job as you get the opportunity to do a lot of things besides just one job and there are ways to branch out. I will tell you as I have mentioned this to many others asking similar questions is that the LE function in the US has gone to DOD police and contract security to allow all MP's and MP units to be deployed. Overseas, Korea, Germany you will perform LE on the camp or Kaserne you are on intertwined with going down range to the field and the many other various support missions that go with it. If you want to join to stay home or play police officer it is not the place you need to be.

Yes Tony things have Radically Changed for the MP corps since 85. I was in from 79 to 2003 and from then to there it is a nearly total revamped MP Corps and the missions have been expanded upon tremendously. It has gone from the Vietnam style defensive perimeter field exercise to Move, Shoot, and communicate quasi mechanized infantry style of combat support and LE operations. Oh if I just had a nickel for every new soldier sitting in a turret asking me where his/her patrol car and white gloves are like the picture the recruiter showed them
