review? some structural mistak? The play Toronto the good written by Andrew Moodie. The factory theatre cast, led by Xuan Fraser(Thomas Matthews), Stephanie Broschart (Almanda), Miranda Edwards (Violet), Sandra Forsell (Officer Elsie MacGill) and Brian Marler (Officer 1, Simon phillip, Peter Cashin, Chorus 3 ), Marcel Stewart (Chorus 1, William Willis, Solomon Moseby, Gurdit Singh, Young Male), gave their master performance in the play. It’s a thought provoking, worth watching, eye opening play. The play deserves a standing ovation. Things that happen in the play do happen in Toronto. There were many variations to keep the interest of the audience.
The play begins with a black guy(Thomas Matthews) goes to buy popcorn, stopped by the white police and given a ticket just for missing bike lights. He tries to forget the incident. His wife is a teacher(Almanda), she works in a high school. She is a pregnant and about to have an ultrasound. In the play a black teenager was pulled over by a white co-op, later he is charged to have an illegal gun. The case goes under the hand of a black man. He prosecuted a white co-op for pulling over the black guy. He makes the case complicated.
It is a triumphant play about racial profiling, gun violence, music influencing violence, politics and prejudices. The main purpose is to get the viewer to raise some questions about their own prejudices and beliefs. Depends on the music, a lot of rap songs depict a life of violence, drugs, guns rap songs. Some heavy metal rock songs do that as well.
Kudos to the casting director, because the actors were all top notch. Well, Xuan Fraser acting went hand in hand. He had more meat on the bones of acting. All the actors fit according to their roles and characters. Their voices were strong and clear.
Marcel Stewart also gave a splendid performance and provided good comic relief. The audience cheered his performance. He came in wearing baggy pants with new fashion cap, as he started singing the song, it seemed like someone has pulled on electric switch on the stage. He really stole the heart of the audience, he had his masterful style, showing great variation in his line delivery and physical action. When Sandra Forsell went in to dance that looked like a cobra squirming through a sea of Vaseline. All the actors showed without a doubt that they had the talent. Several different types of stage lighting instruments were used in the pursuit of the various principles of lighting. Audience could see clearly what is occuring on stage. Graffiti posters were used to enhance the look and feel of the play, they protrayed the true toronto. The play ground was placed to convey the idea that kids and teenagers nowadays aren’t save. That idea was conveyed when Marcel Stewart possessing a gun was climbing step by step on top of the play ground. Also, when Brian Marler went for work travelling through the slide, it showed the fact that professionalism in toronto has stolen the needs and time of our childrens. It also conveys the idea that toronto is a kid play ground, and if we do something wrong, we are actually transferring it to our kids.
Instead of pregnancy Stephanie Broschart was still working, that shows the fact that Parents work hard enough for their childrens, but their children don’t appreciate all that. Stephanie Broschart her student for completing her assignment, she started swearing at her.
They were shouting there thoughts too, the rationale behind that was it shows the fact that the thoughts were spontaneuous. The characters show us how to speak our truth loudly or that if we hold it in, we may just explode later on. It shows the fact the toronto is populated by all good people, however, they have some flaws.
