in the meantime? I found a cat hanging around my street in very poor condition, but as it is Saturday the vets are closed until Monday. Can anyone give me some advise...
He is VERY thin. His fur is matted and he has a cut on his back in the middle of a bald patch (an absis or ringworm maybe?) He stands funny on his back legs - they seem weak. His claws sort of, stick out everywhere and he looks like he has trouble with his mouth when eating - he wont lap up the food with his tongue, he spreads his mouth as wide as it will go and grabs with his teeth. He also seems to be wet around the mouth, like drooling, or foamy or something. He also smells as foul as anything, which is actually kind of strange, because even if a cat gets dirty they will wash themselves. He has a funny white patch on his nose which isn't a natural marking and his eyes have red blotches in them.
He happily ate the food we gave him, but it wasn't very long after he went to the toilet and it was very runny.
At the moment we put him in a large cage (its one you cand stand up and walk around in) we gave him food and water and he has a comfortable place to lie.
He's very friendly and knows how to use a litter box... so he was probably an 'indoors cat'.
I don't know how 'sick' he is except that his physical condition is poor.
Is there anything else I should do before we take him to the vet on monday?
if you have any information on what might actually be causing these symptoms that would be helpful
what does this poor little kitty have wrong with him?
surely these things can be fixed.... he doesn't necessarily have to be put down right?
